DWIB Leukaemia Trust engaged in the first event for the year 2008 on 15 January at the Calvary Baptist Church near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra. The event was a lecture on Leukaemia, and was delivered by Dr. Ivy Ekem who is with the Heamatology department of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and member, Board of Trustees of DWIB Leukaemia Trust.

One of the cardinal objectives of the Trust is to embark on advocacy programmes that focus on creating awareness of the disease to the general public and second cycle and tertiary students specifically to encourage participation.

The lecture was informing, educating and interesting, made possible by the youth wing of the Calvary Baptist Church the, the “Coalition of Second Cycle Students and Graduates” (COSCSGRAD), in connection with a leukaemia awareness week which was part of activities marking the Tenth anniversary celebrations.

In addition to the lecture, members of COSCSGRAD are retailing DWIB’s fundraising merchandise to raise funds in support of the Trust.

Members of COSCSGRAD who were present included the President, Laurencia Tagoe, Vice President, Kodjo Adu Mafoh, the Regional Co-ordinators, Belinda Aryeetey and Wilma Osei-Bonsu, welfare secretary, Jasmine Cudjo and other officials of the group. They were supported by Reverend Mallet of the Calvary Baptist Church. The Operations Manager of DWIB Leukaemia Trust Ms. T. Amonoo was also present.
